Destination BIKE ROUTES

We have provided a number of suggested routes to destinations on Vancouver Island for travellers and local cyclists. These destinations include BC Ferry Terminals, Points of Interest, Airports, Bus terminals, Sports Facilites, Provincial Parks, Towns and villages. Please note that GNCC provides this information freely under the understanding that you take responsibility for your own safety and assume all risks. We are working on several routes and tours this winter to add to our collection.

Downtown Nanaimo to Duke Point Ferry Terminal

From Downtown Nanaimo the best route to Duke Point is over Haliburton Road. Avoid the BC Highway at all cost. It is extremely dangerous with no room to manoeuver your bike. Only near Southgate mall do we suggest you ride a short section. Click on the icon for the map which shows the best route and click this link for a route descriptions..

Departure Bay Ferry Terminal to North Nanaimo

From the BC Ferries Terminal at Departure Bay in Nanaimo avoid going up Brechin Road and the Island Highway. Instead take the neighbourhood streets to connect to the E&N paved trail that runs parallel to the highway. Avoid the BC Highway at all cost. It is extremely dangerous with no room to manoeuver your bike. Only near Nanoose you have to ride a six kilomter section. Click on the icon for the map which shows the best route.

North Nanaimo to Nanoose Bay

Travelling north from Nanaimo the best route to Nanoose Bay and point further north is via the E&N trail through Lantzville. This route avoids riding a large section of BC Highway 19. ANother great reason to avoid the highway is that you actually get to see the island and enjoy the farms, homesteads, great bays and views of the ocean.Click on the icon for the map which shows the route and click this link for a route descriptions..
